How to Fit Marine Fender Profiles Properly
Share
Correct installation is just as important as choosing the right marine fender. To help you get the best performance and lifespan from your fendering, we’ve put together a simple step-by-step guide covering best practice fitting.
Whether you’re working on a boat, pontoon, or dock, these tips will help ensure a secure and professional finish.
🛠️ How to Fit Marine Fender Profiles Properly
Step 1: Choose the correct fender profile
Flexible Double D fenders are ideal for absorbing impact during berthing and mooring. A 60mm base provides a stable fixing surface while maintaining flexibility.
Step 2: Use a rigid fixing strip
Before fitting, insert a rigid PVC fixing strip inside the fender profile. This acts as a continuous washer, spreading load across fixings and preventing pull-through under pressure.
Step 3: Position and pre-drill fixings
Mark fixing centres evenly along the fender length to ensure consistent load distribution and a clean appearance.
Step 4: Secure without over-tightening
Tighten fixings firmly, but avoid compressing the flexible fender body excessively. This maintains impact absorption and extends product life.
Step 5: Check alignment and finish
Ensure the fender sits flush along the hull or structure. Non-marking PVC helps keep the surrounding area clean and professional-looking.
