
Differences between FKM and Nitrile

FKM, known as fluorocarbon, and nitrile, or nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), are both prominent sealing materials utilised in various industrial applications.
While they share similarities in their chemical resistance, making them suitable for use in environments exposed to oils, fuels, and certain chemicals, each material exhibits distinct characteristics and performance capabilities.
For instance, FKM is renowned for its superior thermal stability, with the ability to withstand temperatures ranging from -20°C to over 200°C, making it particularly advantageous in high-temperature applications.
In contrast, nitrile excels in environments with temperatures between -40°C and 120°C, providing flexibility and durability in a broad range of general-purpose sealing tasks.
Additionally, FKM demonstrates excellent resistance to a variety of aggressive chemicals, as well as exceptional ozone and weather resistance, making it ideal for outdoor applications.
On the other hand, nitrile is often favoured for its cost-effectiveness and outstanding resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels.
These differences in temperature tolerance and other properties highlight the importance of selecting the appropriate material based on the specific requirements of the application at hand.
